Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe that this is my last monthly letter as UUCGF Board president. I have truly enjoyed serving in this position and I thank you all for giving me the opportunity. Our new president, Lili Dobert, and vice-president, Jon Larson, are ready and excited to begin…they will do a great job and I wish them a terrific year!
The church has had so many dedicated and fine leaders throughout it’s almost 50 year history. Those leaders and all of the congregation have paved the way for where we are today. Next year, when we celebrate our 50th anniversary we will surely be looking back and marveling at the changes and growth. Those changes and growth usually come with some mixed blessings….and, still do. However, from a larger perspective, stepping back, I believe that the growth at UUCGF is truly amazing. Each year, it is my hope that we not only continue to be a loving community amongst ourselves, but also that we become a stronger liberal religious presence in the community, always aware of the possibilities of Unitarian Universalism.
So, we’re off to enjoy all that summer brings … and this year we are experimenting with weekly summer services! What an exciting idea! I thank Carol Schneider for coordinating this new effort and I look forward to hearing all about it.
As many of you know, Jim and I are leaving June 2, to live at his home in Pennsylvania for the summer. I will be resting, (can I really do that????) and working on my new business, Listening For Life. I will be teaching “Conscious Listening,” a unique, deep way of listening, to hospice volunteers and medical staff to help people feel loved and at peace at the end of their lives. I plan to begin writing a book, this summer as well. Hmmm…this does not sound like resting!! I am very excited and will keep you posted!
I wish you all a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing everyone in September. I shall miss serving as president….Love to you all.
In Faith,
~Barb
